Atlantic City firefighters rescued three people and a dog after their sailboat got caught on a jetty.
The crew of 32-foot sailboat, "Peaceful Warrior," planned to stop overnight in Atlantic City when they missed the turn and got caught on the New Hampshire Avenue side of the jetty at about 10 p.m. Wednesday night, Fire Chief Scott Evans said.
"The boat was being pounded by waves," Evans said.
But the five to six feet of water was too shallow for the U.S. Coast Guard to come get them, so the Fire Department was called at about midnight Thursday morning.
Firefighters used a rescue rope from the beach to bring the three adults and dog to safety, Evans said.
Some time before dawn, the anchor broke loose, and the empty boat washed up on the beach, he said.
