A Mays Landing man was driving drunk while his license was suspended when he caused a four-vehicle crash, police said.
Jeffrey Chudzinski, 38, was driving a minivan west on Route 40 when he swerved into the oncoming lane, Hamilton Township police said.
Tracie Johnson, 57, also of Mays Landing, was heading east, when she swerved to avoid the minivan.
Johnson's car struck the rear driver's side of the minivan, and then crashed head on into a Medi Transport van driven by Jean Torres-Malpica, 26, of Vineland.
The impact forced the van backward into a car driven by Jeremy Allen, 29, of Millville.
One adult passenger in the Medi van suffered facial injuries, police said. No other injuries were reported.
Chudzinski was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, unlicensed driver, failure to maintain lane, careless driving, reckless driving, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of heroin, and operating a motor vehicle during a period of license suspension for DWI.
He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on several unrelated warrants.
Chudzinski pleaded guilty to heroin and cocaine possession in 2011, and was sentenced to 364 days in the county jail, court records show. He also has a bail-jumping conviction from 2006.
