An Egg Harbor Township man was using a Black Horse Pike hotel room to run a drug-production facility, according to Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner. Malik Smith, 25, was arrested on drug and gun charges after his hotel room at Howard Johnson’s was searched, and investigators found  7,575 bags of heroin stamped “King of Death,” along with raw unpackaged heroin, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and marijuana. Also recovered was a Glock 19 9mm stolen from Georgia, a Smith & Wesson 9VE pistol and hollow-point ammunition. Smith was charged with maintaining/operating a drug-production facility, manufacturing/distributing more than 5 ounces of heroin and/or fentanyl, conspiracy, receiving stolen property, eluding police, resisting arrest by flight, and hindering apprehension, along with two counts each of unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a firearm during the commission of a drug crime. He is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, pending a detention hearing set for Sept. 22. The investigation was a joint effort between the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Unit, Pleasantville Police Department's Street Crimes Unit, Galloway Township police, Egg Harbor Township police, Hamilton Township police, Stockton University police and the NJ Air National Guard.
