A music teacher known for recording his own take on Jewish music has been arrested for receiving and distributing child pornography.
Eric Komar, 46, of Hillsborough, used a peer-to-peer file-sharing program to obtain and share images and videos that included prepubescent children being sexually abused, acting U.S. Attorney William Fitzpatrick announced Tuesday.
Komar has been a performer for two decades, entertaining everyone from preschoolers to retirees,
according to his website.
In 2013, he put out a CD focusing on Jewish music for children, the Hillsborough Patch wrote at the time, noting that he recorded several of the tracks with students from local synagogue religious schools and preschools, where he also taught.
Komar’s wife and two children are also featured on this album as the “Komar Family Korus," according to the Patch story.
He has his first appearance on the charge was before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge James Clark in Newark Federal Court on Tuesday. He was ordered held without bail.
