Atlantic City native sworn-in as Stockton University alternate student trustee

  • Stories of AC

An Atlantic City native was sworn Wednesday in as the alternate student trustee on Stockton University's Board of Trustees.
Deon Davis, 20, a 2015 Atlantic City High School graduate, is a junior major in communications.
He was in the Boys and Girls Club's Champions of Youth Program, and was Atlantic County Youth of the Year in 2015.
“That’s where I honed my leadership skills,” Davis said.
He chose Stockton because it was small and offered personalized attention.
“I have dyslexia,” he said. “I wanted the ability to be able to talk to and build rapport with my professors.”
A member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Davis is vice president of the Stockton Greek Council and a former member of the Student Senate. He wants to be a filmmaker, and his role model is Oprah Winfrey.
The student body chooses two students to serve on the board: one as a voting member, the other as a nonvoting alternate.
The alternate becomes the voting member in their second year on the board. Both serve as representatives on specific board committees, and participate in board discussions, deliberations and open public meetings.
Ike Ejikeme, a native of Jersey City, is this year's voting member. He is a in a Dual Degree Master’s program pursuing a Homeland Security track.
Ejikeme, who is president of the Stockton chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, founded the I-Phi Food Drive to benefit the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.
