Pleasantville man wanted in drug and guns case

  • News
A Pleasantville man is wanted in a case in which a hotel room was allegedly being used as a drug-production facility. No charges have been announced against Dominque Handy, but they are pending, according to information released in court Friday. Co-defendant Malik Smith is jailed on drug and gun charges after his Sept. 15 arrested at the Howard Johnson’s on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township. Smith was in court for a detention hearing Friday, but instead public defender John Bjorklund mentioned some issues with the case, including that the room was registered to another man. That man is Handy, Assistant Prosecutor Anne Crater told Judge Rodney Cunningham. A signed guest list for the hotel shows the room registered to Handy, and he is being sought, Crater said. Inside that room, investigators found 7,575 bags of heroin stamped “King of Death,” along with raw unpackaged heroin, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and marijuana. They also found a Glock 19 9mm stolen from Georgia, a Smith & Wesson 9VE pistol and hollow-point ammunition. Handy, 26, has been on pretrial intervention since Feb. 2, for a heroin possession charge from last year, court records show. The program allows defendants to avoid prosecution by completing a program. That will now be terminated with the new charges, his attorney in that case told BreakingAC. Smith now has a detention hearing set for Tuesday. He is expected to retain private counsel by that time. Bjorklund also said the defense needs discovery in the case. A search warrant provided to him was mostly redacted. Crater said another is available, but that some will still be blacked out to protect the identity of  confidential informants in the case. There are intercepts of phone calls and texts as well, but those too involved confidential informants who set up the buys that were under surveillance as part of the investigation. https://breakingac.com/eht-man-allegedly-running-drug-organization-out-of-hotel-room/
