One killed, three wounded in Hamilton Township shooting

  • News

A Mays Landing man was killed and three others wounded in a shooting Sunday night in Hamilton Township.
Police were called to the Brandywood Townhomes at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday for multiple gunshot victims, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said.
Taufeeq Mitchell, 31, who grew up in Atlantic City's Venice Park, was pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.
Mitchell leaves behind three biological children and two stepchildren.
No other victims were identified.
Sunday was his first day off from work in weeks, a loved one told BreakingAC, asking that they not be named publicly due to the ongoing investigation.
"He was very supportive of his children. The only time he took off was for their football games," the loved one said. "He had a smile that could light up a room."
About an hour and a half before the shooting, Mitchell posted a selfie on his Instagram page that said, "2017 can u believe a n----a just punched me in the face." It was not known if that was related to the fatal shooting later.
One man remains hospitalized in critical condition. Two others have been treated and released, Tyner said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Major Crimes at 609-909-7666 or police at 609-625-2700. Information can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234.
