Vincent Williams was both father and mother to his children, his mother said Friday.
But that all ended July 3,2014, when he was shot dead in Buena Vista Township.
Cousins Hykeem Martin and Dominique Washington were sentenced for planning the execution-style killing.
A jury convicted them of conspiracy but acquitted them of murder.
Washington was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Martin got a 15-year term. Both must serve at least 85 percent of their term before they are eligible for parole.
Martin was friends with Williams, the victim's uncle told the judge. He knew Williams' teenage son and daughter, who were separated after their father's killing.
Washington smirked as Lee Vonner spoke.
When the uncle called him on that, Washington shrugged at Vonner.
"He thinks the whole thing is funny," Assistant Prosecutor Dave Ruffenach said in asking that Washington be sentenced to the maximum term.
Washington did not address the court. Martin said only that God knows he's not a bad person.
