An Egg Harbor Township teen was arrested after he crashed his car fleeing police Friday, and left behind a jacket with a loaded gun in it, Atlantic City police said.
Detectives Jefferson Rivera, Avette Harper and Ermindo Marsini stopped the 16-year-old at about 8:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Hummock Avenue, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
As they approached, the driver sped off. The detectives got into their car and went after him, and found the car carshed into a fence behind the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, according to the report.
The teen took off his jacket as he ran, and police found it on the path — with a loaded gun in the pocket, Fair said.
Officers Lisa Sims and Jamira Norwood found the teen in the 700 block of Michigan Avenue.
He is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction of justice, eluding, criminal mischief and numerous traffic summonses. The teen, whose name is not being released due to his age, was taken to the Harborfields Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.
