Babysitter left children in car while she filed out casino employment paperwork, police say

  • News
A Pleasantville babysitter was arrested after she left two young children alone in a car while she applied for a job at the Ocean Resort Casino, police said. Officers James Bower and Albert Herbert were called to the casino Monday just after 3 p.m. after a 6-year-old child was seen walking around the garage, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. The vehicle the child got out of was found — with the baby sibling inside. Officers found out that the babysitter, Shaun Sanders, had left the children unattended, according to the report. The officers tried to find Saunders for more than an hour when she came back into the parking garage and was arrested without incident, Fair said. Saunders, 23, was also found in possession of marijuana, according to the report. She had been completing employment paperwork for the resort, Fair said. The children were turned over to their mother after she was located at her place of employment with the help of the Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Saunders is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. She was released on a summons. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
