A fake Facebook post that has been making the rounds just got a local connection.
The selfie of a bald police officer in uniform is accompanied by the claims that the officer posted it to the Facebook page of a person who ran from him.
A post to the profile of a man named Ryan made late Monday night connects it to an Atlantic County police department.
"Ryan, you dropped your phone when you decided to run from me tonight," the post reads. "Feel free to stop by Galloway Police Department to retrieve you phone."
But the post is a fake, Galloway Police Chief Donna Higbee confirmed to BreakingAC.
The officer in the photo not only doesn't work for the Galloway Police Department, it has been making the rounds for at least a year as different departments, she said.
As to whether Ryan decided to fool his Facebook friends and followers or someone else took his phone was not immediately clear.
A Facebook message to the profile was not immediately returned.
About 10 hours after it was posted, there were nearly 200 shares and 77 comments.
