Pleasantville High School’s principal has been arrested on child pornography charges, according to jail records.
Edward Bonek, 48, was arrested Wednesday after a search warrant was executed at his Absecon home Wednesday morning, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he is awaiting a detention hearing.
Bonek faces three second-degree endangering charges, including distributing images and video files of child abuse images, possession of images and video files of child abuse images and storing images and video files of child abuse images, jail records show.
He also is charged with third-degree possession/viewing images and video files of child abuse images.
Superintendent Clarence Alston said he had just learned of the arrest.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything,” Alston said in a brief phone interview.
He was going to call the solicitor to see what needs to be done.
Bonek just completed his first full year as principal at the high school.
He was interim principal last year, and Alston said he recommended him for the full-time position.
Bonek served as a vice principal before that.
