An Atlantic City merchant accused of selling counterfeit designer products has faced similar charges twice before.
Mohammad Usman, 35, was arrested last week with another merchant when police seized more than $1 million worth of counterfeit merchandise from several Boardwalk businesses.
He and Kashif Ansari were released on summonses.
Usman’s first arrest on similar charges came in 2011, court records show.
At that time he was indicted on nine counts, including trademark counterfeiting of more than 1,000 items.
He was accepted into pretrial intervention, or PTI, which allows someone with no record to avoid prosecution by completing a program. Court records indicate he was terminated from the program March 22, 2013, but then restated to successfully complete the next month.
Usman was again charged Nov. 6, 2014, after about a quarter-million of merchandise was seized. But it does not appear he was ever indicted, and the case was dismissed over the objection of the prosecutor June 14, 2016, records show.
Usman’s attorney in both of those cases, Mark Roddy, continues to represent him. He said he could not comment on the cases.
Usman and Ansari were arrested Aug. 16, after a two-month investigation.
Ansari does not appear to have a record.
