A letter that allegedly led to an attempt on James Kauffman's life is at the center of a hearing in the case against a man accused in the killing the doctor's wife.
April Kauffman was found dead inside her Linwood home May 10, 2012.
No atrests were made until this January, when Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced she was killed in a hit ordered by her husband after she found out about an alleged drug ring led by him and Ferdinand "Freddy" Augello.
James Kauffman was later found dead of an apparent suicide inside his Hudson County jail cell, where he was moved to protect him from the alleged attempt on his life.
The letter sent to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office last year by Kauffman's then-attorney Ed Jacobs names Augello and alleged shooter Francis Mulholland.
Mulholland died of a drug overdose Augello is set to go on trial for murder Sept. 11.
The letter Jacobs testified to authoring updates a 2012 letter that reportedly gave information about who would may have harmed April Kauffman, but adds names.
Detective James Scoppa testified that it was shown to informant Andrew Glick for him to show to Augello.
It allegedly led to several conversations between the two men, and a plan to kill the doctor.
Both letters are admissible, Judge Bernard DeLury ruled Friday.
