An Atlantic City driver was allegedly drunk when she crashed into three parked cars and then fought a police officer, according to charges against her. Mercedes Hicks was found at the scene in her car, where she also had her bumper with her after police say she tried to clean up the scene before leaving. Officer Armani Rex responded to the 1500 block of Ohio Avenue at 6:10 p.m. Sunday for the report of several parked cars being struck, and started to speak with Hicks, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. She was trying to drive away from the scene, even though the car was not drivable, police said. Hicks, 31, refused the officer's orders to exit the vehicle, so — believing the driver was under the influence — the officer reached inside and tried to turn the car off, Fair said. Hicks immediately began to swing wildly at Rex., according to the report He opened the driver door, whenHicks continued punching and kicking at him. Officer Kevin Dever arrived and assisted in taking Hicks into custody. Hicks is charged with obstruction, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, DWI in a school zone, refusal to submit to a breath test, reckless driving, unlicensed driver, suspended driver, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle and failure to maintain a lane. She was released on a summons with a future court date.
