Driver was allegedly on drugs when he struck a woman walking on an Atlantic City sidewalk

  • News
A woman is in serious condition after an allegedly impaired driver without a license hit her with his van as she walked on the sidewalk in Atlantic City. Police were called to Michigan and Arctic avenues at 4:15 Wednesday night and found a 63-year-old woman from Hornell, N.Y., was seriously injured, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. Mario Marcellari, 52, was arrested for driving under the influence after an investigation by Officer Jimmy Rodriguez. A series of tests by Officer Joseph Bereheiko, a certified Drug Recognition Expert, determined Macellari was under the influence of narcotics while he was driving. It was not clear why Marcellari's van left the road. The Tuckerton man is charged with aggravated assault, assault by auto, DUI, reckless driving, careless driving and being unlicensed driver. He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to call police at 609-347-5744. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
