Atlantic City's mayor and the lieutenant governor sat side by side at Tuesday's meeting of the Atlantic City Executive Council.
It was the first time Mayor Frank Gilliam and Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver — who oversees the city — have been seen together in public since FBI and IRS agents came to Gilliam's Venice Park home in an investigation that is said to include a nonprofit group and several checks.
This was the third meeting of the Executive Council. Oliver presented an overview of what would be discussed before it started, then closed the meeting to the public.
Oliver was in town last month for the League of Municipalities meeting when word broke about complaints filed against Gilliam and Councilman Jeffree Fauntleroy in an alleged fight outside the Haven Nightclub.
Gilliam was scheduled to be court on those complaints Tuesday afternoon, but his attorney had that postponed, and entered a not guilty plea in a letter to the court on Gilliam's behalf, North Wildwood Municipal Court Judge Louis Belasco said.
Meanwhile, Councilman Jeffree Fauntleroy — who appeared in court alone — pleaded not guilty.
Tuesday's meeting on Stockton's Atlantic City campus was to include a progress report by Oliver, according to the agenda.
