A man was arrested in Atlantic City with a gun reported stolen from North Carolina, police said.
Police were called to Brighton and Atlantic avenues just before 7 p.m. Sunday, for the report of a man assaulting a woman inside a vehicle, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Officer George Mancuso found the vehicle in a nearby parking lot and started talking to the driver, K'Vonne Smith, according to the report.
Smith admitted he had an argument with the female passenger, and was taken from the vehicle so officers could investigate further.
While Officer Matthew Schmidt was talking with him, Smith said he had a handgun, according to the report.
Smith, 29, of Winston Salem, N.C., was arrested and a handgun recovered from his pocket. The gun had been reported stolen from North Carolina, police said.
There was no evidence of an assault, Fair said.
Smith is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and receiving stolen property. He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
