A former Port Republic teacher was sentenced to five years in prison Friday in the abuse of a former student.
Brian McSee, 53, pleaded guilty in March to endangering the welfare of a child by sexual conduct.
He will serve his time at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel, a correctional facility that deals with sex offenders.
A required pre-sentencing report by Avenel found McSee is a repetitive and compulsive offender.
The abuse continued despite McSee saying he promised himself it would stop and saying he felt guilt and shame for his actions.
McSee was the boy's choir teacher in seventh and eighth grade. He also was choir director at the boy's church, St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
He must register as a Megan's Law offender.
