Cleaner, safer future for Fox Manor, property owner says

  • News

Atlantic City's troubled Fox Manor Hotel could get a new life, the owner says.

Sean Reardon said he bought the land at 2707 Pacific Ave. along with other properties in the city in an effort to help clean them up.

But, he was stuck with a tenant who the city says ran a hotel like a rooming house that became a haven for drugs and violence.

There were 399 police calls to the building last year, according to department spokesman Sgt. Kevin Fair.

An earlier list provided to BreakingAC had 375 calls, many just labeled "trouble."

Reardon plans to gut the building and rebuild something better to honor the "historic property."

The former Florida resident said it's easy for outside people to buy properties and just collect rent, but "I'm hands on."

He now lives in the neighborhood and says he has a vested interest in its success.

Police went room to room Thursday, making sure tenants got out.

Many said they had less than 24 hours' notice.

Resident Kim Furchuk said money was being collected from those staying there as late as Thursday morning. Many, she said, had nowhere to go.

Jimmy Jasani, who runs the hotel, could not be reached for comment.
