Man convicted of sexually assaulting child for years in Ocean County

  • News

A Monmouth County man was convicted of sexually abusing a child throughout Ocean County over seven years. Christopher Barclay, 40, of Eatontown, could face life in prison. An Ocean County jury convicted him Thursday of the abuse that continued from 2005 to 2012 in Toms River, Berkeley Township and Woodbridge Township, Prosecutor Joseph Coronato said. Barclay was charged Feb. 23, 2017, with crimes including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arrested by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department in Sterrett, Alabama. Barclay will be sentenced under the Jessica Lunsford Act, which requires at least 25 years in prison for first-degree sexual assault. He also faces five to 10 years on the sexual assault and endangering charges. They also require he serve at least 85 percent of those terms under the No Early Release Act. If Barclay is ever paroled, he would be subject to supervision for life under Megan’s Law. Defendant will also be subject to Meghan’s Law, parole supervision for life. He is also restrained from ever contacting the victim under Nicole’s Law.
