Nationwide student protests turn memorial for some Atlantic County schools

  • News

Students nationwide are expected to walk out of their classrooms Wednesday morning, a month after 17 people died in a school shooting in Florida.
The #Enough campaign has met with warnings of suspensions or failures for missed tests in some schools.
But locally some schools are using it as a memorial to the students.
Pleasantville High School will have a School Safety Gathering. While in Egg Harbor Township, the students will be led out for a memorial to those killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
It started with “student leaders of the senior class wanting to do something as a school,” EHT Principal Terry Charlton said in a video on the school’s website.
The students will proceed to the track of the football stadium starting at 9:50 a.m. for the service, where the track bell will ring once for each of those lost.
In a message to district parents, Superintendent Dr. Kim Gruccio stressed that the school-endorsed event was meant to be a memorial not a protest.
