Atlantic City’s women-led Princess Inc. is looking to give help to 600 of the city’s homeless women.
The #PackYourPurse initiative is asking for donations of gently used handbags that will be filled with cosmetics and other products that women need but are unable to get.
“We want the women to feel loved, respected and know that their circumstance doesn’t stop anyone from helping them meet their needs,” Princess co-founder Automne Bennett wrote in a letter being sent to local businesses.
Bennett and co-founder Indra Owens are looking for items to fill the purses, including feminine products, soap, deodorant, washcloths, undergarments and socks.
The drive will culminate on May 12 at 1601 Arkansas Ave.
In turn for donations, Princess will promote participating businesses, with company logos able to appear in publicity, including mailings, handouts, event booklets, posters and a direct link from the
Princess Inc. website.
“Automne and I continue to believe that we can make an impact in the city that we so love by giving the people the ‘love down’ that they need,” Owens said. “This community service project has a different spin because it's gender specific. This May we're only focusing on the needs of our women.”
