A former Port Republic Elementary School teacher pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child by sexual conduct Monday. Brian McSee, 53, who also lives in Port Republic, was arrested in December for allegedly sexually assaulting an underage male student. McSee was the boy’s seventh- and eighth-grade choir teacher, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said. McSee also served as choir director for the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where the boy went to church. Under the plea agreement, McSee faces five years in prison when he is sentenced, which is scheduled for May 5, Tyner said. That could change as sex offenders must undergo an evaluation before sentencing. McSee will have to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and will be subject to lifetime parole supervision upon his release. He is currently housed in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he has been since his arrest. Following McSee’s arrest, detectives from the Special Victims Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office continued the investigation, contacting local organizations where McSee was associated, Tyner said. “Both school officials and members of the church were very cooperative,” said Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Flammer, who prosecuted the case. “There was no evidence that anyone in either community had any knowledge of McSee’s acts prior to his arrest.” Anyone with information involving serious crimes is asked to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-909-7800 or go to the Prosecutor’s Office website http://www.acpo.org/tips.html and provide information by filling out the form anonymously on the Submit a Tip page.
