A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the killing of a woman after a fight at a baby shower at a Bridgeton trailer park.
Daiquan Blake, 20, of Pennsgrove, was found guilty during his trial in January of passion/provocation manslaughter in the killing of 34-year-old Juanita Sease Holley.
After an altercation at a baby shower at the Tips Trailer Park on Sept. 17, 2016, Blake returned with a gun, and shot the woman.
He also pointed the gun at her husband, Reggie Holley.
But during sentencing last week, Superior Court Judge Cristen D’Arrigo found that the facts of the case were closer to that of murder, and the there was no justification for him to be provoked, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae announced Monday.
D’Arrigo sentenced Blake to 10 years in the killing, the maximum term for manslaughter. He must serve at least 85 percent of that term - or 8½ years - under the No Early Release Act.
Blake was additionally sentenced to 10 more years for unlawful possession of a handgun, for which he must serve at least five years.
That means he must serve at least 13½ years before he is eligible for parole.
