New Shiloh offers girls day of the beauty within

Greatness in You Inc. is hosting a day of empowerment for girls in fourth through 12th grades. Beginning at 10 a.m., the event at New Shiloh Community Life Center will look at topics girls face daily — and invites parents to join in separate sessions that will mirror the topics their daughters will discuss. "We want to offer support, answers and encouragement to and for you," Youth Pastor Nycole Lyles-Belton said of including parents. Topics include self-esteem/positive body image, bullying, self-respect and social media with a seminar entitled "What is too far?" The day begins at 10 a.m. in the center at 701 Atlantic Ave. Students will be placed in age-appropriate groups. The free event includes breakfast and lunch, giveaways, "swag bags" and entertainment. Painting event looks to channel girls' future passions

Jamaanah Salaam and Kamirah Hamlett Kamirah Hamlett and Jamaanah Salaam are looking to empower girls in their hometown. The two Atlantic City natives are now based in northern New Jersey, where they founded YOUnite, with the goal of creating a place where women cane come together to inspire one another and network. They are bringing that “girl power” to Atlantic City next Saturday, with an event for girls ages 12 to 16. “Paint Your Passion” will help girls focus on their futures through art. “They will be taught to celebrate their true selves, discover their passion and will discover their inner ‘girl power,’” according to an announcement about the event. "By the end of this event, the girls will be walking away with a basket full of school supplies and set goals to accomplish.” “Pant Your Passion” will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the All Wars Memorial Building in Atlantic City. To sign up for the free event, RSVP to Amber Hamlett at  hamlettconsultingllc@outlook.com   or call 609-816- 3848.
