Humane Society no longer named in suit against SPCA head Beall

  • News

The Atlantic County Humane Society is no longer a defendant in a case alleging a Galloway Township couple was targeted by the county’s SPCA head based upon their religion and ethnicity.
Dr. Daud Panah — an Atlantic City psychiatrist — and his wife, Mina Panah, filed suit in federal court March 28, claiming Nancy Beall harassed them and extorted money not because they abused animals but because they are from Afghanistan.
Beall, however, maintains the couple’s Galloway farm is a horrible place for animals.
While the suit continues, attorney Edward Harrington Heyburn filed a stipulation Friday dismissing the complaint against the Humane Society.
The complaint also adds Chelsea Lippincott, an animal control officer who Beall has said she directed to write the summons and was the one she had visit the farm on several occasions.
The 25-page suit claims Facebook posts Beall shared show her hatred of Muslims and included several making allegations against the couple.
Beall has called the suit “totally, absolutely baseless.”
