Atlantic City teen arrested after dropping gun, police say

  • News

A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he allegedly dropped a defaced gun while walking in Atlantic City.
Officers Aaron Jones saw the teen just after 8 p.m. Friday, as he was driving his patrol car in the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue.
The teen, who fit the description of a suspect in an earlier investigation, was walking behind a vehicle as Jones approached, when the officer heard a metal object hit the ground, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Jones got out of his car and went to the area where he heard the loud bang, and found a loaded gun, according to the report.
The teen ran, and Jones chased him, making an arrest in the area of Kentucky and Arctic avenues.
It was later found that the teen, whose name was not released due to his age, was not involved in the earlier incident.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, obstruction of justice and possession of a defaced firearm.
He was taken to the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center.
