Atlantic City bike rides bring community together

  • News

The yellow shirts stood out as bike riders went through Atlantic City on Sunday.
Some were wearing them. Some had them partway on their shoulders or tied around their heads.
But it was the words written on them that told the story.
"I am ASAP. Against. Shooting. Another. Person."
The bike rides began last month when a Fourth of July celebration turned to a need to bring together the community — especially the youth — being devastated by gun violence.
On Sunday, Rashad Faheem organized another bike ride.
The event began in the back parking lot of the All Wars Memorial Building, with free waters and T-shirts.
They rode all over the city, with a stop at the skate park and even went into Venice Park and a cookout in Adams Court, resident Tia Allen said.
Mayor Frank Gilliam and Councilman Jeffree Fauntleroy were among the riders.
"Rashad Faheem, (you're) a genius bro with these bike rides," Fauntleroy later wrote on Facebook. "Let's keep the POSITIVE VIBES in the city flowing!!"
