A man imprisoned in Bridgeton for attempted murder is now charged with killing his cellmate.Anthony Cole, 34, is charged with murder in the death of 25-year-old Keyon Wade.Wade was found in his housing unit Wednesday with apparent head trauma, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said.An investigation by the the prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit and the Special Investigation Division of the state Department of Corrections led to Cole being charged with murder Friday.No motive or details were given concerning the attack.Cole was convicted of slitting the throat of a South Plainfield Public Works employee as the man prepared for the borough’s Labor Day fireworks display Sept. 7, 2009.An appellate panel overturned the conviction in 2015, due to a tape played at trial that showed Cole ranting to himself after he was left alone in an interrogation room.A new trial had been ordered, but last year the state Supreme Court upheld the conviction, instead ordering a new sentencing.He would have completed his current sentence in 2028. He previously served a five-year sentence for a 2001 rape.Wade was jailed on charges that included gang criminality, aggravated assault and weapons offenses for a 2015 case in which he and others were involved in a rash of shootings, records show.
