Three people rescued two women before the vehicle they were trapped in was engulfed in flames after a crash in Egg Harbor Township this weekend.
Shirley Dingle, 70, was heading south on Cates Road at about 7:30 Saturday night, when she failed to stop at the sign on West Jersey Avenue, and drove into the path of another vehicle, Lt. Michael Finnerty said.
Quaaim James Ward, 23, of Mays Landing, was heading west when Dingle drove into his path, according to the report.
The crash sent both vehicles into a utility pole, with Dingle and her passenger, 56-year-old Jacquelin Bethea of Mays Landing, were trapped inside, Finnerty said.
Egg Harbor Township residents Timothy Dlugosz and Juan Perez, along with Jennifer Hauta of Mays Landing, were able to get the women out of the car before both vehicles were engulfed by fire, Finnerty said.
James-Ward and his passenger, Saequan Burton of Glen Burnie, Md., were able to get out on their own and refused medical treatment.
Dingle and Bethea were both taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainlad Campus in Galloway Township for injuries not considered life-threatening.
The road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated.
