Galloway man gets 30 years for beating father to death

A Galloway Township man was sentenced to 30 years in prison last week in the brutal beating of his father in 2015, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced Thursday.James Sopuch Jr., 31, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in January.He used two baseball bats in April 25, 2015, beating of his 60-year-old father, James Sr., who was found dead inside his Trotters Lane home.Sopuch Jr. has to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, or 25½ years, under the No Early Release Act.He already has served more than four years.“We may never know the secrets of this family that remain behind closed doors,” Tyner said. “However, family violence continues to contribute to sad, tragic incidents that rip apart the fabric of our community. As a result, the Sopuch family was decimated by alcohol and domestic violence, at the hands of James Sopuch Jr.”
