A pair was arrested for allegedly making thousands of dollars in purchases at an Atlantic City casino using fraudulent gift cards.Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa security personnel notified the Atlantic City Police Departments Financial Crimes Unit in October about an ongoing scheme involving the theft of multiple people’s identities, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.An internal investigation by security identified Daniel Brown and Danita Ancrum as being involved in the scheme, according to the report.Borgata personnel first became aware of the purchases using various credit card numbers and email addresses in July, Fair said.At that time, they started to void any future purchases and current gift cards that had not yet been used by the suspects. While tracking the suspects, they discovered Brown made hundreds of dollars of purchases at stores and restaurants throughout Borgata and added money to his player account.Ancrum was making similar purchases in August, and was accompanied by Brown, Fair said.Brown and Ancrum, both 29, used the fraudulent cards to buy more than $4,000 in goods, according to the charges.Brown, who is from Lindenwold, and Ancrum, of Mount Laurel, were charged with theft, theft by deception, receiving stolen property, conspiracy and money laundering.Brown was additionally charged with two counts each of identity theft, obtaining value from stolen credit card and fraudulent use of credit cards.
