Air fresheners unable to mask scent of drugs, police say

  • News

Air fresheners and fabric softener dryer sheets couldn’t cover the smell of drugs coming from a car after it was stopped in Atlantic City, police said.
Marquis Mans was pulled over at about 9:50 a.m. Friday, after Officers Alberto Valles and Chris Dodson saw him cross over the center lane into oncoming traffic at Arkansas and Pacific avenues, according to the report.
The officers could smell marijuana coming from the car even though there were multiple air fresheners and fabric softener dryer sheets inside, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Mans was arrested after he got out of the car, and left behind a small bag with cocaine inside, Fair said.
When the officers searched the car, they found 520 bags of heroin, 25 grams of cocaine, marijuana and a digital scale, according to the report.
Mans, 38, of Newark, was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, two counts each of possession with intent to distribute and possession with intent within 500 feet of a public zone, along with several motor vehicle summonses.
He was released on a summons with a  future court date.
