Vineland police warn of man impersonating city worker

  • News

Vineland police are warning residents not to believe a man posing as a Municipal Electric Utility worker.
A warning about the scam was first posted by Vineland police Jan. 18, warning of two men trying to gain entry into homes by pretending to be VMEU workers.
Then, this week, they released a photo of a man who identified himself as a worker to a resident in the area of Edna and Junior drives, police said.
“It's unknown if this subject was attempting to gain entry into the residence, however he does match the description of the subject from the previous incidents,” police said.
The man is described as Hispanic in his late 20s or early 30s with a thin mustache.
Residents who may encounter someone claiming to be from the city are asked to call Vineland Municipal Utilities at 856-794-4021. Residents are also encouraged to call police at 856-691-4111 or 911 if a subject matching this description tries to get into their residence.
Anyone who can identify the man or who has more information is asked to call Detective Charlie Mackafee at 856-691-4111, ext. 4317.
