Galloway man admits to beating death of father

  • News

A Galloway Township man accused of using two baseball bats to brutally beat his father to death in 2015 has pleaded guilty.
James Sopuch Jr. pleaded to aggravated manslaughter Wednesday, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said.
Sopuch, 31, faces a sentence of 30 years and would have to serve at least 85 percent under the No Early Release Act.
“We may never know the secrets of this family that remain behind closed doors,” Tyner said. “However, family violence continues to contribute to sad, tragic incidents that rip apart the fabric of our community. As a result, the Sopuch family was decimated by alcohol and domestic violence, at the hands of James Sopuch Jr.”
Sopuch Sr. was found dead in his Trotters Lane home April 25, 2015.
An autopsy revealed that the victim died of blunt-force trauma to his head.
His sentencing is scheduled for April 12.
