A man is in critical condition after a Vineland police officer responding to a domestic incident took him down with force, Cumberland County’s prosecutor said.
Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said her officer is investigating the use-of-force.
Vineland police responded to a domestic incident in the parking lot of the Inspira Medical Center at 4:23 p.m. Saturday.
An officer approached the suspect, who was intoxicated, according to the report.
The man then took a step toward a woman and a security officer with clenched fists, which is when the officer grabbed him and “ultimately took him to the ground to restrain and handcuff him,” Webb-McRae said.
The man, whose name is not being released to protect his health privacy, was examined at Inspira and then transported to Cooper Health Systems for a head injury.
Webb-McRae said her office is investigating in accordance with the 2006-05 Supplemental Law Enforcement Directive Regarding Uniform Statewide Procedures and Best Practices for Conducting Police Use of Force Investigations.
