A Villas man died in a one-car crash this weekend , Lower Township police announced Thursday.
Patrick Wood, 25, was traveling north on Fishing Creek Road on Saturday when he lost control near Breakwater Road just before midnight, and struck a tree, according to the report.
Wood was treated at the scene for life-threatening injuries, and then taken to Cape Regional Medical Center, where he died.
He was a well-loved rugby player, who graduated Lower Township Regional High School in 2012. He also played football and wrestled.
Wood majored in economics at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, according to his obituary.
He worked for numerous area restaurants, most recently at Secondo's. Wood is survived by his parents, Donna and James Wood, siblings Nicholas, Betty and Michael Pollanti, and James D. Wood.
His funeral is set for noon Saturday at Evoy Funeral Home in Cape May. Visiting hours are from 9 a.m. to noon.
