  • News

Egg Harbor Township police are investigating a crash that left an SUV on its roof Thursday morning.
Nelsy Velez-Vargas was driving west on Washington Avenue and Kevin Zak was exiting the Garden State Parkway Exit 37 when the two vehicles collided in the middle of the westbound lane just after 9 a.m., police said.
Velez-Vargas' Ford Explorer overturned from the impact with the Hyundai Sonata.
The 47-year-old township woman and her passenger were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus in Galloway Township for evaluation.
Zak, 58, of Little Egg Harbor Township, and his passenger refused treatment.
Eastbound traffic was detoured temporarily while the crash was investigated and the site cleared.
Summonses are pending the outcome of the investigation led by Officer James Ludwig.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Traffic Safety Unit at 609-926-2643.
