Event to unite mourning Atlantic City community

  • News

Many in Atlantic City have been touched by violence.
The loss was highlighted in the past two weeks when three young people died in separate shootings.
Quran Bazemore was only 16 when he died June 24, eight days after he was gunned down by a 15-year-old boy, according to the charges.
Just hours after Bazemore was laid to rest Wednesday, the news came that recent high school graduate Katusca "CeCy" Robles was shot inside her Pennsylvania Avenue apartment that she shared with her 1-month-old son.
In between, 21-year-old Jordan Reaves died in what Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner has called part of the street justice that investigators must race against as they try to track down killers.
The deaths have left the community looking for answers.
On Monday, many will come together at Dolphin Field for prayer.
But "it's not only about these three young people," said one of the organizers who asked that she not be named so as to keep the focus on the community.
"Our city has been hit very hard with many tragedies," she said. "We are focusing on the full community of hurt, and pain recently, past and present."
The event will be held from 6 to 7 p.m.
Grieving parents, siblings and the entire community is welcome.
The prayer is "not a religion, just humanity."
