7-year-old pedestrian fatally struck in EHC

A 7-year-old pedestrian was killed and a woman severely injured after they were struck by an unlicensed driver Thursday in Egg Harbor City.
Jorge Rodriguez, 30, was driving a GMC pickup truck west in the White Horse Pike near Buffalo Avenue, when he struck the two, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said.
The woman was walking across the pike with two children, according to the report.
The child, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus with life-threatening injuries.
Rodriguez, who is also listed as Jorge Rodriguez-Saldana, was charged with being an unlicensed driver involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash and also given a summons for being an unlicensed driver.
He was released on a summons.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Egg City police at 609-965-2901 or the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit at 609-909-7800.
Hamilton and Galloway townships’ police, New Jersey State Police, Egg Harbor City Fire Department, Galloway Township Rescue Squad and the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office assisted.
