Ten Galloway Township students received Chromebooks courtesy of the police — and seized criminal profits.
“As part of our campaign to bring education, safety, wellness and build bonds of trust, we have applied to utilize funds we seize off the street through criminal prosecutions, to give back to the public and our students,” Police Chief Donna Higbee wrote in a letter to parents.
The computers will be used for the summer educational program and then each child will get to keep it as a reward for their hard work and commitment to education and the community, she wrote.
The children are chosen by the school.
Officer Kevin Jorgensen, who does community policing and the township’s DARE program, was on hand to present the Chromebooks to the students Wednesday.
This is the second year for the program.
The 10 students are Ellie Abrahamson, Nathaniel Aurelus, Aracella Ng, James Pressley, Melissa Sanon, Ibn Cottman, Preston Chambers, Riley Colon, Alexandra Trenard and Bowen Chen.
