A Gloucester County man is wanted for allegedly running over a woman as he fled a crash after getting into an argument following a car crash in Wildwood.
Dalton Storms, 21, of Franklinville, is charged with aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim and violating a law intended to protect public health and safety, Wildwood police announced Sunday.
The crash dates to just before 10 p.m. May 24, when the 56-year-old Villas woman’s car was rear-ended while she was stopped in traffic heading east on Rio Grande Avenue, according to witness statements.
The woman and the other driver — who was in a white Dodge Challenger — were seen getting in a verbal altercation. The man, later identified as Storms, then tried to drive from the scene, police said.
The woman got in front of his vehicle to stop him.
Dalton then allegedly drove slowly for several feet, pushing the woman backward before quickly accelerating, according to the report. The victim was pulled under the sports car and run over by at least one of the vehicle’s tires as the driver fled.
An investigation led to Dalton, and seizure of the Dodge Challenger at his home.
Wildwood police and members of the New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit searched his home and found evidence related to the case, police said.
But Storms has not been located. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
The victim sustained multiple injuries, and has since been released from the hospital.
Anyone with information about Storms’ whereabouts is asked to call Wildwood police at 609-522-0222.
