Suspect in 2014 killing ordered detained

  • News

A former Mays Landing man accused in a 2014 killing will stay jailed pending trial.
Timothy Wright, 39, is accused of strangling Joyce Vanderhoff, whose naked body was found dumped on the side of a Hamilton Township road Feb. 14, 2014.
Wright admitted to being the last person the Egg Harbor Township woman was with, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy told the judge.
An investigation of Wright’s cell phone also revealed turn-by-turn instructions from the dump site to his home, Levy said.
That information was previously reported by BreakingAC. It remains unclear when that information was obtained by investigators.
“It’s not like it was a Walmart parking lot,” Levy said of the spot Wright got directions from being a remote area.
Vanderhoff, 25, is believed to have been killed the day before her body was found on the side of County Road 559-Weymouth Road near mile marker 24, just before 10 a.m. Valentine’s Day.
Wright was among those interviewed shortly after the body was found, Levy said
After that, he admitted himself to the hospital and then moved to Pennsylvania, where he was recently arrested.
That was an attempt to flee questioning, Levy alleged.
In deciding to detain Wright, Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury cited the extreme violence of the crime, attempt to cover it up and his high risk of flight since he established a home in another state.
