Four people were arrested after a car was stopped for speeding Friday morning in Ventnor.
Kimberly Baldwin, 43, of Egg Harbor Township, was pulled over by Officer James Arentz for speeding in the area of Dorset and Atlantic avenues, Capt. Joseph Fussner said.
During the investigation, Arentz saw items associated with drug use and — from speaking with the driver — believed she may be impaired, according to the report.
Two of her three passengers fled the vehicle, Fussner said.
After a brief chase, Erich Lewis and Ahmad McKinley were taken into custody by Officers Kevin Brady and Michael Newell.
While fleeing, Lewis, 32, of Vineland, was seen discarding a bag under a nearby vehicle, according to the report. The bag was recovered and found to contain 220 bags of suspected heroin, and what was referred to only as “a substantial amount of cash.”
McKinley, 25, of Atlantic City, was found in possession of suspected heroin when he was searched.
A search of the vehicle also found additional drugs and drug paraphernalia, Fussner said.
Baldwin was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. She was released on summons.
McKinley and Lewis were charged with obstructing the administration of law, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both were also found to have active warrants, which resulted in them being sent to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
The third passenger, 32-year-old Eric Salata of Mays Landing, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic syringes, and released on a summons.
