A since-fired Atlantic City towing worker was allegedly using customers’ credit card information to make purchases and create fake accounts, police said.
William Reyes, 44, was using the information he obtained from AAA Roadside Assistance customers in Atlantic and Cape May counties to purchase clothing, shoes, jewelry and car parts, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
City Wide Towing fired Reyes after learning of the actions, and sparked an investigation Sept. 12, according to the report.
At least 20 victims were identified in an inspection of the office computer and other resources during an eight-week investigation by Detective Ann McGlynn of the Financial Crimes Unit.
McGlynn also found purchases were going to two addresses, where items were being sent to an Alexander Rosario, the report says.
That led to search warrants for a home on the 200 block of North Kentucky Avenue in the city and one on Federal Court in Galloway Township, which were searched Nov. 7, Fair said.
Reyes, 44, was arrested at the Atlantic City address, along with Elizabeth Cruz.
They also found evidence of known purchases, Fair said.
In Galloway Township, police arrested Rosario and, along with evidence of known purchases, found 115 grams of cocaine, paraphernalia used in drug distribution and more than $22,000 in cash, according to the report.
Reyes is charged with identity theft, theft of a credit card, fraudulent use of a credit card, conspiracy and money laundering.
Rosario, 39, of Galloway Township, is charged with conspiracy to commit theft, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone and possession of drug paraphernalia.
All three were released on summonses.
