Atlantic City car stop yields 60 bags of heroin

  • News

An Atlantic City man wanted on a warrant learned this weekend that you should always drive with your lights on -- especially if you have 60 bags of heroin in the car.
Iree Jones drew the attention of Officer Wahab Malik when he pulled up behind the police car on Pacific Avenue without his headlights on at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to police.
When Jones passed Malik, the officer stopped him, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Jones had not driver's license and gave an alias, which turned up an active warrant, Fair said.
When he was told he was told he was under arrest, Jones allegedly fled.
The officer quickly caught Jones, and took him into custody, according to the report.
While being searched, he was found to have 60 bags of heroin on him, Fair said.
Jones, 26, was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute, hindering apprehension, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and contempt of court for the warrant. He also was given motor vehicle summonses.
Jones is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on a probation violation.
