Galloway police investigating attempted luring complaint

  • News

A man attempted to abduct a 17-year-old girl Tuesday in Galloway Township, her parents told police.
The girl said she was walking home from Absegami High School on East Great Creek Road at about 11:40 a.m. when a vehicle approached her while the driver was honking the horn.
She heard the seat belt click and the front door open as the driver was exiting the vehicle, according to the report. The girl then ran from the area to a nearby residence, where she called her pares on a cell phone.
The driver did not have any conversation with the girl, police said.
The man is described as an African American man in his late 20s or early 30s with scruffy facial hair, wearing a T-shirt that had writing on it.
He was driving what the girl called an older model "soccer mom" type tan minivan with tinted rear windows.
No further description was provided.
Absegami's principal sent an email to parents telling them about the incident.
"It is unknown what the intentions of the driver were at this time but we wanted all students and parents to be aware of this incident," Principal Daniel Kern wrote. "It is recommended that students walk in groups whenever possible rather than walking alone and be cognizant of their surroundings. Please use caution and report any suspicious activity to the Police Department by dialing 9-1-1 immediately."
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call Galloway Township police at 609-652-3705.
