Atlantic City man arrested after fleeing stop in stolen van

An Atlantic City man was arrested after he was pulled over in a stolen van and then ran from police.
Michael Bell, 44, was driving with a suspended license when Officer Bayron Zelaya-Chavez tried to pull him over at about 10:30 Sunday night, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
The van had been reported stolen from Stafford Township, when the officer spotted it in the 3300 block of Atlantic Avenue, according to the report.
Bell allegedly refused to pull over, then drove to the first block of Sovereign Avenue, where backed up into the patrol car, then jumped out of the van and ran.
The officer caught up with Bell as he tried to jump over a fence, Fair said.
Bell turned away and started to yell for the officer to shoot him while he held his waistband, according to the report.
The officer was able to create distance and was trying to de-escalate the situation when Bell ran up the stairs of a deck and jumped off to the ground and ran.
He was later located by
Officers Malik Tolbert and Kevin Perez later found him with 10 bags of heroin.
Bell was charged with receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, hindering apprehension, possess of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had several active warrants and was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses.
He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
