Brooklyn man allegedly tried to steal Atlantic City Public Works truck

  • News

A Brooklyn man allegedly tried to steal an Atlantic City work truck on Saturday.
A Public Works Employee stopped Officer Martin Maldonado at about 7 a.m., saying he had been assaulted and a man tried to steal his work truck.
The 52-year-old victim was picking up trash in the area of Florida Avenue and the Boardwalk when Deandre Watson got into the truck and tried to drive off, the unnamed man told police.
The victim was able to pull Watson from the truck, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. Watson shoved the victim to the ground and ran, while the victim called 911.
The officer saw Watson about 90 minutes later, and arrested him in the beach block of Iowa Avenue, with the help of Officers Hiram Mercado and Jamar Dabney.
Surveillance Center personnel were able to positively identify Watson from the attempted robbery.
Watson was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana, Fair said.
Watson, 22, is charged with robbery, carjacking and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
